HAL advises U seniors in Bluffdale design project

In the Fall 2020 semester, Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL) advised a senior design class in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Utah. The course, as the culminating experience of the undergraduate program, provides students an opportunity to solve real problems identified by industry sponsors.

Twelve class members, under Dr. Christine Pomeroy’s direction, completed a siting study for the City of Bluffdale’s Zone 2 East drinking water facilities. Based on HAL’s recent Water Master Plan for Bluffdale, the students identified potential sites and prepared a preliminary design for a tank, pump station, and pipeline that will serve a future mixed-use development on the existing Geneva Rock property near the Point of the Mountain. HAL assisted the students with design criteria, hydraulic modeling, and tank details.

On Dec. 1 the students presented their work to HAL, City, and Department staff via Zoom (shown above).

HAL has supported student projects at various universities over the years, including a study of City Creek Canyon hydrology, a drinking water model for Woodland Hills, and an energy analysis of Utah water and wastewater systems.
