About Us

BACKGROUND

Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL) was organized in 1974 as Vaughn Hansen Associates by Dr. Vaughn E. Hansen, a prominent university educator, engineer, author, and founder and director of the Utah Water Research Laboratory. After leaving the university environment, Dr. Hansen’s goal was to create a highly ethical consulting team that could help meet the growing water engineering needs of the Intermountain West. Vaughn Hansen Associates completed many significant projects and the firm became recognized as a leader in water resources engineering.

In 1987 the firm became Hansen, Allen & Luce to reflect a change in managing leadership to Dr. David E. Hansen, Mr. Marvin E. Allen, and Mr. William A. Luce. In 2021, Steven C. Jones, Gordon L. Jones, and Dr. Tyler G. Allen became the new corporate leadership. The firm continues to grow with a highly specialized staff in both size and breadth of services offered, with the primary focus remaining in water resources.

In 2024 we celebrate 50 years of successfully meeting the engineering needs of our many public- and private-sector clients.

SUPERIOR CLIENT SERVICE

An attitude of “keeping our clients in control” of their projects has helped us maintain a high rate of repeat business. Key priorities include working closely and communicating effectively with our clients and exceeding clients’ expectations with respect to work product and project schedules.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Recognizing that our clients have established budgets for engineering services, HAL strives to charge reasonable engineering fees by tailoring the scope of our services to meet client needs, by carefully monitoring project costs, by keeping our staff productive, and by minimizing overhead expenses.
