Utah governor recognizes HAL as Energy Innovator of the Year

Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL) was named Energy Innovator of the Year in the 2015 Governor’s Excellence in Energy Awards. HAL’s Steve Jones (right) and Rob Sowby (center) accepted the award from Governor Gary R. Herbert (left) during the Energy Development Summit on May 21.

The awards, sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Energy Development, recognize achievements in three categories: environmental leadership, community leadership, and innovation. The innovation award HAL received “recognizes applicants that distinguish themselves through design or implementation of innovative energy programs, technologies, strategies, purchases, or processes.”

HAL’s nomination included pioneering new services to address energy efficiency in the water industry, a sustainability opportunity that has been largely overlooked. HAL has helped Utah water utilities save millions of kilowatt-hours through innovative operational and capital projects that allow more efficient operation and water delivery. Clients have realized energy savings of 30% and many other benefits after implementing HAL’s recommendations.

HAL thanks Rocky Mountain Power, Cascade Energy, and the Utah Division of Drinking Water for their support on several projects. HAL also thanks Steve Jones, a company principal, for his vision of saving energy through water system optimization and for his enthusiasm and leadership in developing this program for HAL’s many and valued clients.

HAL is honored to be Energy Innovator of the Year and looks forward to further innovations in Utah’s water and energy industries.
