Sowby wins ASCE’s Mead Prize

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has selected Robert B. Sowby to receive the 2020 Daniel W. Mead Prize for Younger Members.

The prestigious prize is awarded for papers based on ASCE’s Code of Ethics following an annual prompt. Dr. Sowby, a water resources engineer at Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL), received a plaque and cash award for his entry “To Uphold and Enhance the Profession,” in which he explored the ethical impacts of recent scandals in the engineering and construction industry.

The award presentation, originally planned for ASCE’s annual convention in Anaheim, occurred on Oct. 29 as part of a virtual conference.

We extend our congratulations to Dr. Sowby.
