Rob Sowby, a water resources engineer at Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL), recently spoke on a panel of water experts at a local gathering of sustainability enthusiasts.
Held at the Jenkstar Center for Arts and Sustainable Living in Salt Lake City on April 21, the discussion focused on the challenges facing Utah’s water infrastructure—population growth, climate change, aging facilities, and outdoor water demands—and what can be done to address them. Sowby praised local water conservation and reuse efforts and encouraged audience members to be aware of the complex water supply processes that serve them every day.
Other panelists included Laura Briefer, Salt Lake City’s public utilities director; Bill Damery, Utah Division of Water Quality; Mike Silva, Utah Division of Water Rights; and Darren Mann, Utah Rivers Council. Chris Cline of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service moderated the discussion.
