Rob Sowby, a water resources engineer at Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL) and a Ph.D. student in the University of Utah’s Urban Water Group, published a research paper in the July 2017 issue of Journal – American Water Works Association with his advisor, Dr. Steve Burian.
The peer-reviewed paper, “Survey of Energy Requirements for Public Water Supply in the United States,” is available online, and a summary appears in the print issue. The dataset is also available. The research helps characterize one side of the water–energy nexus, a broad research area that explores the interdependence of water and energy resources.
Sowby’s doctoral research complements the work he does at HAL to help water systems optimize their operations.
