HAL welcomes new faces in 2022

Ben Nelsen (top left) joined HAL at the beginning of 2022 as a civil engineer supporting water modeling and municipal operations. Ben received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University. He enjoys running, working on puzzles, reviewing businesses on Google, and trying new pop flavors. Ben serves in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Easton Hopkins (top center) is a recent graduate from the University of Utah, earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2022. He joins HAL as a civil engineer supporting a variety of water projects including the design and operation of municipal drinking water and secondary water systems. In his spare time Easton enjoys skiing, playing board games, and spending time with family and friends.

Josh Hortin (top right) studied at Utah State University, earning his Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2017. He worked for four years at the Utah Water Research Laboratory in environmental quality research and analysis. He joins HAL as a Civil-Environmental Engineer supporting water and wastewater planning and environmental quality and chemistry. In his spare time Josh plays handbells, collects minerals, explores national parks, and skis.

Kate Nicponski (bottom left) joins HAL as a Geologist with three years of environmental services experience. Kate earned her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Environmental Geoscience from the University of Utah. In her spare time Kate enjoys camping, snowboarding, playing pool, going to the movies, and low-stakes poker games with her friends and family.

Aaron Olney (bottom center) earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Utah State University in 2020 and joins HAL as a Civil Engineer. With a year and a half of experience in land development he is excited to focus on water resources and hydraulic design. In his spare time, Aaron enjoys honing his skills in the kitchen, rock climbing, cycling, and exploring Utah’s 4×4 trails.

Ry Weber (bottom right) received his Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University, where he majored in Watershed Science and minored in Global Environmental Sustainability and Sustainable Water. In 2022, he received his Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering focusing from the University of Utah. In his spare time Ry enjoys going on whitewater rafting trips, camping, skiing, and doing environmental volunteer work.
