Hansen, Allen & Luce (HAL) recently met with Saudi Arabian officials to share its experience in water system optimization. For over 40 years, HAL has helped solve water challenges in Utah and the American West, where increasing population and limited water resources in a semiarid climate present unique engineering and policy problems similar to those in Saudi Arabia.

HAL’s Steve Jones and Gordon Jones presented “Water Optimization Studies: Lessons Learned and Helpful Tools” at a meeting of the Saudi Arabian Water Environment Association in Al Khobar on Dec. 2. The presentation focused on HAL’s experience in the American West and related it to opportunities in Saudi Arabia. Environmental Consulting Bureau (ECB), a subsidiary of Al-Masader Al-Dualiyah for Environment and Quality Systems (AMAD), sponsored the event.

HAL had previously completed water optimization studies for ECB in compliance with Saudi Aramco’s Water Conservation Policy (INT-11) which promotes water efficiency, responsibility, and sustainability for its respective projects. HAL has now formalized an agreement with AMAD.

During the trip, Joneses also met with representatives of the Ministry of Water and Electricity, the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, and Saudi Aramco.
