Groundwater sustains some 44% of the U.S. population (95% in rural areas), whether from a public source or a private well. Groundwater feeds many streams and lakes and plays an important environmental role. Of all water on Earth, only 1% is available for our use, most of which is groundwater.
Groundwater is a renewable resource but must be managed carefully. The National Ground Water Association recommends an annual water well checkup to help ensure water quality and proper well operation.
