David Hansen, PhD, PE

Sr. Principal

Dr. Hansen, a Senior Principal of Hansen, Allen & Luce, Inc. (HAL) has more than 41 years of experience in the design and management of water-related engineering studies and design projects. His experience has focused on civil engineering and water resources, including project management of water projects including pipelines, and well house and pumping facility design, surface and groundwater studies and investigations, permitting, well designs and evaluations, regulatory compliance, water rights, and litigation support. Dr. Hansen has held various positions within AWWA including a term as Section Chair. He recently resigned from the Timber Lakes Water Special Service District Board where he served for 16 years helping to resolve critical water system issues. He currently serves as the Summit County District Engineer over the Water Concurrency Program, as the Global Inventory Manager for ‘Carry the Future” and as a Board Member of “Do Your Part”, both refugee relief non-profit organizations.

Dr. Hansen has a B.S.C.E. degree from the University of Utah, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Utah State University in Water Resources and Hydrology, and Hydraulics respectively. In 2003 Dr. Hansen received the American Water Works Association Outstanding Service Award, in 2007 he received the American Water Works Association George Warren Fuller Award, and in 2016 the AWRA Outstanding Service Award in the Private Sector Award.

Dr. Hansen has been married to Leann Simonsen Hansen for 44 years. Together they have 5 children and 17 3/4 grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family at home or at their cabin, motorcycling, snowmobiling, and boating on Lake Powell.
